Curriculum
Mario Vento received a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering in 1989, from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy. He is currently Full Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Salerno, where is the coordinator of the Artificial Vision Lab.
From 2002 to 2006 he served as chairman the Technical Committee TC15 of IAPR “Graph Based Representation in Pattern Recognition”, and from 2003 is an associate editor of the “Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis”.
In 2006 received the fellowship from the International Association Pattern Recognition (IAPR), for his contributions to graph based methods in pattern recognition.
His research interests fall in the areas of Pattern Recognition, with particular reference to Graph based methods, Video Analysis and Interpretation for traffic monitoring and Video Surveillance applications. He especially dedicated to Syntactic and Structural Classification Methods, Exact and Inexact Graph Matching, and Learning Methodologies for Structural Descriptions.
He authored, jointly with Prof. Foggia a database of large graphs, widely used in the field of Pattern Recognition and applications for the benchmarking of Graph Based Algorithms; he also authored many papers in the field of Graph Matching and Learning. He published over 170 research papers in International Journals and Conference Proceedings and serves as referee for many relevant journals in the field of Pattern. He is scientific coordinator of several research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of University and by European Community.
